Robert Storey Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Nice nose of tobacco and strawberries. Very tannic at the start. After aeration we gave this some time to open up, and it eventually warmed up with bold flavors of blackberry and dark cherry and a smokey finish. Another couple of years will soften the tannins and smooth out the edges, but I liked this wine just fine now.
Upon aeration, pouring, and swirling, this Cab's bouquet unfolded delightful hints of strawberry and incense. The first few sips, though, disappointed. The initial taste was tannic, which gave way to flatness and finally, bitterness right before swallowing.
Allowing the wine more time to open and warm up enhanced the flavor, but not enough to live up to the promise of its initial tempting aromas. This is a story of high expectations for a $35 Napa Cab (which usually equates an orgasmic tasting experience) squashed by mediocre wine.
