Balbas Gran Reserva Ribera del Duero 2001
This was intense. Fourteen years in the bottle, this is one of those rare wines that makes you sad when it's gone, Tingling acidity gives way to succulent, dark fruit with a beautifully long and spicy finish. Without a doubt, the best Spanish wine I've ever tasted. Why didn't I buy more from WTSO?
This beauty really came into its own over the last 14 years. From its aromatic bouquet and its warmth, which spread over my tongue like a favorite quilt, to the smoky and dark chocolate notes, and playful finish, Balbas was every bit as good as we hoped.
