Black Stallion Estate Winery Chardonnay 2014
Generally I am not a fan of California Chardonnay, because for such a long time every one I tasted from California was over-oaked. It was literally all I could taste, and I didn’t like it, so I basically wrote it off completely. This week’s featured wine is definitely not your typical oaky Chardonnay.
The 2014 Black Stallion Chardonnay was a very pleasant surprise. You’ll notice buttery lemon aromas with a whiff of apricot after you open it, followed by crisp peach flavors, zingy acidity, and a judicious use of French oak that is not overbearing. This is a very nice, refreshing Chardonnay at an excellent price.
With a delicate rose aroma and a fruity, almost Riesling-like flavor, this is the Chardonnay for people who aren't necessarily fans of Chardonnay. It's a smooth, balanced wine from start to finish, with a taste of peach. Its gentle acidity at the back of the throat and a hint of butter on the aftertaste really make Black Stallion Chard a pleasing wine.
