Klinker Brick Old Vine Zinfandel 2012
The 2012 Klinker Brick is what I like in a Zin: bold fruit flavors, balanced with acidity and spice. There’s a spicy leathery smell when you pull the cork which made me think this was going to be a very dry wine, but the flavors are actually quite robust: rich blackberry and blueberry mingle with a lively acidity, and a peppery finish that I really enjoyed. I have had quite a few mild and too-sweet Zins lately, so I was very pleased that this had some oomph to it!
I also appreciate that the Felton family has been growing grapes and making wine in Lodi, CA for five generations. They’re a winery everyone can get behind.
They aren't kidding when they say "Old Vine Zinfandel." This wine is made from the grapes of 16 different vineyard blocks, and those vineyards average 85 years old!
This lovely, reasonably-priced wine has a bouquet of tart cherries. As you sip, you'll notice its smooth, silky body and raspberry notes. It's a fruit-forward wine with a nice acidity at the finish.
